Question Meme (DW Version)

Basically for new folks, this is how this works. Ask me a question about my characters. I'll ask one back about yours. Keep going until we're bored. (Note: you may have to remind me who you play
Thusia
Zelgadis Graywords, formerly of Vulpecula of Sabra La Tau (
nolongerslate)
Entanglement
Ai Tanabe (
allmylove_inspace)
Georgia Carolyn Mason(
truthaftertheend)
Hectocommander borl Paryunu Abriel nei Dobrusk Lafiel (
prideofabh)*
Also an IJ version -- or ask about those characters (Tazendra Lavode, Akin Iyapo Shin Kaalnikanjlo, Ermillina Curtana aka Snow White**, Tailmon, Marla Mason) here.
* Aside: Tazendra recited her titles, some of Aerich's, and three other people before she realized she didn't know everyone she was wishing back to life, and said so. Ptou (formerly Messenger, a god of Sabra La Tau) commented how fancy the names were. Dragaerans have nothing on Abh, despite both being genetically engineered elves.
** I may have a problem with characters with exceedingly long names. Send help.

Date: 2012-01-08 07:08 pm (UTC)And, well, if Dani or Talia** were at Sabra, she'd want them to take care of her.
So, how is Thusia?
* Honestly, she wouldn't think about it like that. Snow is canonly pretty dense about same-sex attraction -- her best friend was crushing on her for years and Snow was clueless until it was outright said. Snow even reflects that if Talia had been male or acting like that towards a man, Snow would have picked up on it like that.
** Dani would have been a Lacerta or a Pavo; Talia probably Hydra or Orion. True story, I first thought of apping Talia, but any mysterious being who asked for her help in exchange for a wish would be thrown out the nearest window. If they were not stabbed first. Which is a good thing, as I might have considered from the same set of PBs as I eventually used for Tazendra. (Both are exceedingly attractive women; Talia is Middle Eastern and I wanted a South Asian PB for Tazendra (who was described in canon as having dark skin -- I know Bones uses an African PB for her). Both also needed a PB who had done some action-y movies for fight icons.)

Do you have any app plans?
no subject
Date: 2012-01-08 08:15 pm (UTC)I have ALL THE APP PLANS. The problem is finding out who/what to app and making sure they don't step on Zel's toes in 'too many characters like him'.
First I am going to app an OC, and the main problem is which of the contenders. It's hard, since... well, I can't babble about them to people and expect to be understood, except maybe by Excel and Daisy. But I have several tabletop RPG characters* and a webcomic that died when I went to grad school and is now kind of '... man, I was embarrassing when I was younger'.
Other than that, a bunch of us were talking about playing Dragaeran characters on Thusia. I'd probably not app Tazendra**, since I need a break to make sure I have the canon version unentangled from Honor and the Sabra version got the Happiest Good End, so like hell I'll take that away from her. There are a couple others from that canon: one of the villains (Grita, who was the one who killed Tazendra and Aerich and would probably hate Honor even worse than her canonical self***) and Daro (minor character, gets a cool 'speak truth to the Emperor's wife' moment and 'save then-boyfriend from assassins' moment, then hovers in the background until the newest book). Or Teldra or Sara (both in the House of More Charisma than Anyone Should Have and genuinely nice people). Grita and Teldra get an edge, since both are canonically dead (though Teldra's soul was bound into a magic sword to keep it from being eaten), so I'd feel less bad about it. Or, hell, the current Empress (from a future after she abdicates)... (there are too many characters from this canon that I like).
Also, I'd like to play a real hippie character like Nausicaa, but I want to wait until she has some breathing room/plot has developed so she has more of a chance to find a third path. And I need to get that movie again (or reread the manga). or a Zelda character or Earthbound.
... You see my problem.
So, what about you?
* It would be a lot easier if I ever played Exalted, since Kidale is from the comic version of that setting.
** This may be a lie, but I suspect if I did app her it would either be a total AU or it would be Honor, but several millennia down the line when all of her non-sorcerer friends are dead (and she still is perfectly fine, being a wizard) and she's been doing increasingly audacious things for thrills.
*** Not only 'how dare you come back to life', but Aerich basically made a wish that meant that all the bullshit she put up with because her parents were from different Houses would never happen again, and she's kind of spiteful because it was people she loathes who did this.

Date: 2012-01-08 09:01 pm (UTC)I mean, he's glad they aren't taken by the Pillar. He has enough of Blue's memories to be seriously fond of Lucky's old band; he doesn't remember others so well, but no one deserves that.
But it's seriously weird to see someone where you know you know them, but it's not them, except he kind of has memories where it is. So, honestly, it's easier to avoid Aella because of all that. I'm sorry I'm not Blue, okay?
Plus, it opens up the possibility of two Luckies, and the world doesn't need that. No world needs that. It's a terrifying thought just thinking about it.

Date: 2012-01-08 09:45 pm (UTC)Except no, she doesn't. It hurts to look at them, but she's getting better at focusing on the differences and learning to know them for THEM, not for who she wants them to be. Mmmostly this is down to Shinichi, who was the only one who had the patience to talk with her for any length of time! H-He's… also one of the left obviously loltrauma cases, which makes him way easiet to cope with, DESPITE the fact that he's basically a double of one of her little brothers.
The rockiest relationship she has right now, with any of them, is Lucky. IT'S HILARIOUSLY ANTAGONISTIC in its own way, and I super hope they get into some serious fights—as interesting as it would be if they could learn to accept each other as fellow Vulps, etc. 8|b

Date: 2012-01-08 09:12 pm (UTC)-- Azula. Seriously I had her app written and everything, and submitted it... right after Wata submitted, so before she was on the taken list, but after she was, in fact taken. But I kind of wanted to give her a better end, and she really needed a rebuild from a blank slate.
-- Dag Bluefield from the Sharing Knife books. Mostly for weird powers and having an older character with seriously shitty memories. Also, as the Pillar played out, it would have been interesting since, in canon, he kills monsters that don't know how to die and suck out life force trying to fill a void using bone knives that have to be primed by mercy-killing members of the tribe*...
... He so would have ended up trying to sacrifice himself make a god-killing knife for his team. His wife would have been furious at him. His team would have been furious at him. He would have known it, but, he has a duty, you know?
-- Mirei from the Doppelganger duology, because she spent most of her life split into two bodies, and that would have been all the confusion until she figured that out.
-- Talia Winters (Babylon 5); another character who got a crummy canonical end and who would have had shenanigans, since she had a personality implanted by the Bad Guys to be obedient to them that consumed her default personality in her last canonical appearance.
-- I also considered Lina Inverse (after good-ending Zel) and Talia from Merry's canon. Talia was rejected because she'd toss any Judge that tried to recruit her out the window.
Common themes: a lot of novel characters, characters whose memories are all WTF, and crummy canon ends. Dag would have been different, but Dag was more for setting...

* Usually only the dying, but there's ballads of heroic self-sacrifice in the face of 'oh, shit, monsters and no reinforcements and we are out of weapons'.

Date: 2012-01-08 09:32 pm (UTC)Would any of those have been on Ophi, by any chance?
no subject
Date: 2012-01-08 09:43 pm (UTC)Oh, I nearly forgot, I nearly apped Ranamon from Digimon Frontier as an Ophi, mostly because having a spoiled idol singer mer-critter who can turn into a horrible squid monster would be amusing.
Merry was also apped as an Ophi right before the character limit changed to permit three blanks. Partially because it was close enough to endgame that I wouldn't have been upset if she perma-died in the rebellion; which I suspected might happen with Judges. Honestly, if it hadn't been for her obvious 'HeyMirrorHeyMirror', I might have left her.
(I'm also sorry I good-ended Marla when I did; she would have been amazing in endgame and I would have liked to scene with her and the Gentleman given her history with Death.)
Also, now I'm sad Tazendra never got a Vlad to meet. Mostly for the potential for LULZ, especially if it was pre-Aerich; Tazendra might have been civil (for her) solely because it took her so long to get a second memory, and, hey, this Easterner knows something of my world, maybe he will tell me.
Favorite godly interactions (Sabra or Thusia)?

Date: 2012-01-08 11:12 pm (UTC)I haven't apped Thusia yet so my exposure is limited.
Sabra:
involving me:
- Chaz and Mirror, all the times, but especially right after Orion Quest.
- Stealing Hydra's dreams was a thing that I didn't expect to turn out like it did, and is to this day, my favorite unintended consequence thing I did as Veiled, mainly because it opened up the association of dreams with Veiled.
- I quite honestly expected Kuchiha to be FOREVER AGAINST gods, and much to my surprise, Messenger got her in the dere.
Not involving me:
- in general, I found storyteller's quests to be kind of hilarious
- Librarian and Cepheus was fun to stalk a lot in general, because it lead to interesting things.
- uhhh gosh I can't decide which one I can pick for a third.

Date: 2012-01-08 11:40 pm (UTC)Sabra:
Involving Mine:
- Tazendra and Haunted, but especially... there was a thread where Tazendra challenged Haunted to a duel, and Haunted noted that she was far happier to leave Tazendra helpless against her while she tormented her friends. [link] Dzurlords and gods of nightmares and fear is a naturally explosive combination.
- Snow and Mirror when Snow first woke up and Mirror was so happy to have a woman on Monoceros and one who was a mirror-mage and such... Snow and Mirror had an interesting relationship, because Snow wanted Mirror's power, but wasn't sure about the whole... well, Mirror is ehtically questionable.
- Zel's recruitment thread with Surgeon, especially since Zel came to loathe Surgeon for dicking around with his form. It was fun going back and having them be cordial; and Surgeon being so straightforward about it.
Not Me:
-- Waterbearer after his bad game and Jace giving back his name and him being all '... you guys ;_;'. I'm sorry we didn't get to do more that that.
-- Surgeon and Mao. My god, every time they were on screen together, it was hilarious. And, well, Surgeon and Lepus in general. Especially since it did give Surgeon a lot more empathy points.
-- Dera and Flowers. Because I never saw it coming.
Man, it was hard to narrow that down.
So... any regrets about things you would have like to have done at Sabra but never got around to?

Date: 2012-01-09 04:39 am (UTC)- Naked metaphorical wandering around with Maya, after a certain key memory. It would have been very ~symbolic~ from a purely canon perspective, but mostly I imagine in Sabra it would have been funny.
- super sad I never did a Kuchiha heart game, because her heart would have been fun to plan, because she has so much weird shit in there. ALAS.
- more stuff with Veiled and or the Dude, but since I wasn't in charge of their endings due to things I would feel a little weird about apping them elsewhere at this time, but who knows, man
- I kind of would have adored to have Chaz and Mami on the same team. He would have loved Mami, and she would have broken his heart so hard.
- More Old!Sabra Charlie! Actually this is more of a thing I am thinking of fuffiling in Thusia, I found a movie that Charlie's PB just did that looks right and some other icon sources, so I think he might be my first Sabraen to go.
- I wish I had apped Kariya later in the cycle, because then he would have been on the competing teams, and he would have really thrived more, but I was so burnt out on him when they came around. I did thoroughly enjoy the trollier threads and Marla's threads with him, though, so I don't think that was entirely a failure.

Date: 2012-01-10 12:48 am (UTC)-- Either apped Merry earlier or apped another character -- a lot of Merry's development was squished by
-- Akin nightmare game. Mostly I wanted to have a lot of non-Canises decide that Akin was out to get them by showing how creepy the Oankali could be. And doing something more psychological would have been fun, since a lot of the nightmares were bloody. Understandable, due to Sabra trauma, but...
-- Play more with Tazendra's developed fear of being controlled. Or hell, I'm sad Tazendra and Queen never got to meet until the final battle, because Queen and Soldier both hit a lot of Tazendra's pings, and yet she had her own personal honor which reshaped her self-indulgent and violent impulses into something that passed for civilized*.
-- Actually played a Judge.
Thoughts on the Sabra setup itself -- what worked and what didn't work for you?
* Granted, a lot of Dragaeran society is structured so a lot of the Houses can be themselves without imploding the Empire.

Date: 2012-01-10 03:07 am (UTC)He keeps a journal on the gods, flora and fauna, as well as noting people with magical talents he thinks are useful (healers and such).
He's also fanatical about caring for his sword. Zel knows once that breaks, it's probably getting sacrificed unless a blacksmith god shows up. Which will be a pain, since Zel wants to rely less on spells because of the power limitations. So, in the mean time, he takes really, really good care of it.
Kidale, same question?
